Hi, my name is Ben and I am a senior! The main purpose of today's blog is to tell you about some of the things we do and learn in our Horticulture class.  I would like to tell you about our greenhouses.

Even though it is winter outside, springtime is coming to our greenhouse. The last few weeks we have been busy getting ready for spring.by planting many new plants. We now  have a greenhouse that is filled with plants and there are more to come. You  will find an array of many different varieties. We have everything from annuals, house plants, flowering plants, vines, vegetables, herbs and lots of hanging baskets. Some of my favorite plants are osteospermum, verbena, new guinea impatiens, and geraniums.

All of the students in shop pitch in and help out. We take turns doing all that needs done in the greenhouse. It is  more than putting a seed or plugs into a pot of soil. You Must keep the greenhouse at a certain temperature. Plants need different fertilizers at different times so we learn all about fertilizing  the plants. Sometimes we  pinch the plants  to make them grow out rather then up. One of the most important needs of all plants is to need water.

I  like to put potting soil into the pots but my favorite part is watering the plants by turning on a water hose or using a watering can. Is seems with proper care the plants grow overnight.

I have  learned many things in the Horticulture shop. As  the greenhouse fills with plants, we known spring is right around the corner. And I think, we are all ready for spring!

As you  plan for landscaping and gardening, keep the Columbia-Montour A.V.T.S. Agriculture shop in mind for all of your planting needs. Starting May 1st, come visit our shop for our spring bedding plant sale!  We  hope to see you in May.
